How to use these worksheets
- Go in order. Numbers 1 to 10 first, then 11 to 20 once your child is confident.
- Before tracing, ask your child to run a finger over the big dotted number, starting at the top.
- Watch where they start each number. Starting at the top is the habit that makes neat writing later.
- Count the shapes together before colouring. Colouring the right number of shapes is the real check.
- Leave the number word for last. Tracing "fourteen" is hard work for small hands, so it is fine to skip it at first.
Common problems, and what helps
Numbers written backwards
Very normal before age 6 or 7, especially 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Keep tracing; it fades with practice.
Mixing up 12 and 21
Say the teen numbers slowly together: one-two is twelve, two-one is twenty-one. Pointing at each digit helps.
Tired hands
Stop after one row. A short page done carefully beats a full page done in a rush.

At what age should a child trace numbers?
Most children are ready to trace numbers around age 3 or 4, and to write 1 to 20 on their own by the end of UKG.
Why do these worksheets have number words?
Number words (one, two, three) are taught in most Indian schools from UKG. Tracing them early makes them familiar.
